Ephesus Museum, which is among the most important museums in Turkey, is located in the Selçuk district of İzmir. The Ephesus Museum, which differs from other museums with its artifacts, cultural activities and visitor capacity, mainly lists the artifacts unearthed from the Ancient City of Ephesus. Finally, the “Artemis Statue” in the Temple of Artemis is shown as the most important work of the Ephesus Museum, which underwent an extensive restoration in 2014. Eros head, Eros statuette with Yunus, Socrates head in the museum, which has a very large collection with approximately 64,000 works, are among the world-renowned works of the Ephesus Museum.

There are still traces of human history on the walls of the museum building. The building became operational in 1831 as a hospital. After 1845, it served as a nursing home for poor Christian families. Handicrafts, local clothing, mother-of-pearl embroideries, 19th century bridal room and kitchen utensils and manuscripts are exhibited in the 4-storey museum, allowing you to discover a wide variety of items related to traditional culture.

Izmir History and Art Museum

Izmir History and Art Museum is one of the leading museums of Izmir, serving as the cultural center of the city. It has been serving in Kültürpark, one of the most important parks of the city, since 2004. Artifacts unearthed in the museum, in the excavations in and around the city;

It is presented to the visitors in three sections.

Stone Works Section : This section is the largest section of the museum. Sculpture works from the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods are exhibited chronologically in the Stone Works Department, which has two floors, a ground floor and a mezzanine floor. There are a total of 225 stone artifacts in the museum, such as mosaics, inscriptions, sculptures and reliefs.

Ceramic Works Department : The old Archeology Museum building, which is a very beautiful building, currently serves as the Ceramic Works section of the History and Art Museum. In this area, artifacts bearing the traces of civilizations from the Prehistoric period to the Byzantine period are exhibited by grouping them according to their settlements.

Precious Works Section : In the Precious Works Section, there are various precious stones, gold, silver, bronze coins, terracotta, glass and metal artifacts from the Early Bronze Age to the end of the Ottoman period.

Izmir Archaeological Museum is a great way to learn about Izmir’s 8500-year-old history. We can define the works exhibited in the museum, which reflects the diversity of cultures that have lived in İzmir throughout history, as both informative and visually striking. You can visit the Izmir Archeology Museum, which is located very close to (right next to) the Izmir Ethnography Museum, between 08:30 – 17:00 in the winter period and between 08:30 – 19:00 in the summer season.
